Paris in December: A Marquee Moment for Climate Action and Cookstoves

The governments of more than 190 nations will gather in Paris in December to discuss and adopt a new global agreement on climate change. The expected agreement is aimed at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions to help mitigate the threat of climate change and support sustainable development.

This milestone moment involves much more than individual country representatives. Global experts and leaders from across the private sector, research community, international organizations, and civil society will come together with governments to ensure that the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21), and its surrounding activities, to focus  on collective commitment and effective implementation efforts to address climate change.

The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (Alliance) will participate in COP21 as a strong advocate for tackling climate change while simultaneously advancing sustainable development. The adoption of clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels creates positive impacts for the environment and climate, public health, inclusive economic growth, and women’s empowerment. In order to achieve the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals and reach our shared climate objectives, we must implement cross-cutting approaches that bring about real impact.

The Alliance’s engagement at COP21 will include co-hosting official and unofficial side events, showcasing technologies and fuels, and communicating how clean cooking can help achieve the world’s environmental protection and climate aims. More information about the Alliance’s participation at COP21 will be posted in the coming weeks.
