Offsetting one tonne of carbon dioxide brings an additional USD 664 in benefits to the communities where carbon reduction projects are based.
For the first time ever, academic research confirms: Carbon offset programs generate high positive impacts on the climate, the local environment and communities. Key findings show:
- Relevance to business and co-benefits drive the motivation to offset.
- Companies indicate that their motivation to offset reaches from reputation/brand image, employee engagement, to supply chain management.
- Quantification of co-benefits enables businesses to create links to their strategic goals.
The study was carried out by the Imperial College London jointly with ICROA (International Carbon Reduction and Offsetting Alliance).
